Sue gets ready
to rumble |
Man, it was cold!
Sues sign says Pre-emptive Peace on the side you see here. On the other side, it says Mikes Militia, Athens, OH Branch and Remember the Librarian.
All day long, people stopped to ask her what that sign meant. It really seemed to arouse curiosity especially from librarians, of course.
Mikes Militia
When Michael Moore spoke in Athens last Fall, he asked the crowd to choose between two versions of his animated "History of the U.S." from "Bowling For Columbine" (which was still being edited). He thanked us in the credits of the film using the name we voted on that night: Mikes Militia, Athens Branch.
The One Librarian
Moores book, "Stupid White Men was due for release on September 12, 2001. After the 9-11 attack, the publishers decided not to release a book which was so anti-George W. They told him to rewrite it, and planned to pulp the whole warehousefull of 1st editions.
When Moore told about this at a speaking engagement, one person in the crowd was a librarian. She was angry at the thought of this, and notified other librarians via an email list. Immediately, the publishers were swamped with emails from angry librarians all over the country. The changed their decision and released the book as-is. So one person can make a big difference.
