Our two buses left Athens at about 12:45 am, and both were filled. The three of us were lucky to get on the larger bus, which held about fifty people: the shorter bus had fuel line problems and lost heat. That must have been a tough ride, because it was really cold, and the trip took all night. We didn’t get to the Capitol until just after 11 am Saturday.

In the seat behind Sue, Chad tried calling George Bush in the middle of the night using a cell phone. Mr. Bush wasn't able to take the call, but Chad evidently spoke with the Secret Service and emphasized his objection to the proposed war on Iraq. I was laughing as I heard him say,
“I just want to make that clear. Is it clear? Really clear? Is it really, really clear? Because I want you to be really, really clear on this...” I’m pretty sure they were at least as clear as Chad was.
